SOVBLKPSSY (she/they) is a queer Ngarrindjeri/Ramindjeri and Walkandi-Woni  musician and DJ.

Currently based in Narrm (Melbourne), outside of her work in music, she volunteers for Wuurn of Kanak LandBack initiative and First Nations Mutual Aid Group Vic.

Over the last year or so, she’s solidified herself as a weapon behind the decks, weaving songs of resistance in with hefty club cuts to make for a powerfully intimate offering. Her mix for the NLV Presents mix series is no exception.

Over the course of this hugely dynamic 35 minute mix, you’ll hear Barkaa’s song of resistance, “Our Lives Matter” paired effortlessly with A Tribe Called Red’s “Land Back”. As the mix descends further into club territory, she pulls out some absolute thumpers from BADSISTA, DJ Swisha, Ahadadream, NLV Records’ signee UNIIQU3 and more to round out this high energy, impactful body of work.

“This mix has everything in it that I love and have been vibing with lately, old and new, bit of everything really,” she said. “I recorded it on Wurundjeri country. I don’t live too far from the Yarra river and there’s beautiful bush trails close to my 1 bedroom apartment. My people are river people so it’s nice to be in a suburb close to the river and surrounded by big gum trees, especially since I’m away from my country.”
