Marking just over one year since the release of Ninajirachi’s acclaimed I Love My Computer, today, she unveils a brand new remix of ‘iPod Touch’ from visionary French producer, singer, and songwriter Madeon. LISTEN HERE.

Following the release of her single ‘WannaCry’ with Porter Robinson last month, Ninajirachi continues her streak of full-circle collaborations with Madeon’s remix of‘iPod Touch’that comes after years of mutual fandom and adoration. Reimagining the original single – praised by The Needle Drop as a “synthy, very retro-futuristic Y2K aesthetic house cut which features a lot of hypnotic and idyllic grooves” – Madeon creates a cinematic rendition that is full of big, bright synths and characterised by the golden age of EDM that is a true form throughout each artists’ back catalogues. 

Of the remix, Ninajirachi shares, “I didn’t really want to release an iPod Touch remix until I could do it with someone whose music I was writing about in the song. I’m really sentimental about it and just wanted it to mean something. I heard Madeon’s earliest music in the background of a tie-dye denim shorts tutorial on YouTube when I was in year 7 and fell down a rabbit hole. We met at Coachella this year, and he asked me to be there for his set, but I didn’t know he was going to play an edit of the song. It was earnestly a surprise. Music is so awesome. Everything made sense when I heard his verse on the remix, like of course, he went through the same revelation a generation before I did. Everyone who loves anything has been through this. It’s so amazing. I feel so lucky to experience it and have this remix exist.”

Following a mash-up of ‘iPod Touch‘ with his own ‘Technicolour‘ at Coachella and teased at NYC’s Zedd On The Park earlier this month, Madeon’s rework of ‘iPod Touch’ marks his first official remix in over a decade. With the original track perpetually influenced by Ninajirachi’s regional New South Wales upbringing that captures a time in world-building, Madeon adds a verse into the remix that details his own formative memories of discovering music.  

“I haven’t done an official remix since 2012, and I wasn’t sure I ever would again… But iPod Touch is one of my favourite dance tracks in recent memory. After hearing Nina talk in an interview about how my early music inspired it, I was incredibly touched,” Madeon reveals. “I decided to add my own verse talking about my own childhood memories of discovering the music that would change my life. Right now Nina is inspiring another generation of young artists. This remix is a celebration of the power of transmission.”

Hugo Leclercq, the Grammy–nominated musician known as Madeon, first appeared to many as something like a teenaged fireball. In 2011, his frantic yet perfectly sculptural ‘Pop Culture‘ famously sampled 39 hits, live, from Daft Punk to Solange, instantly propelling the then-17-year-old to the international stage.
