Today, Naarm/Melbourne-based DJ and producer FOURA kicks off the year with her explosive new single ‘Pesadão’, a collaboration with Geelong-based producer Shuga.
Translating to “very heavy” in Portuguese, ‘Pesadão’ lives up to its name with larger-than-life production, punctuated by a sweltering baile funk rhythm. FOURA shares, “we leant right into this, wanting the track to hold weight on a big system. I loved working with SHUGA, he’s got such an infectious vibrancy in his approach to music.”
Hailing from the enchanting landscapes of Nepal, specialising in UK Garage, Bass, and House Music, Shuga’s sound transcends borders. Captivating audiences with every drop alongside renowned talents like Soul Mass Transit System, Bushbaby, Sophia Violet (GDS), Tom Santa, dameeeela and more, Shuga has earned a reputation as a versatile artist who knows how to set the vibe just right. On working with FOURA for ‘Pesadão’, Shuga adds, “The track for me is about our mutual love for the different types of bass music that we listen to & play all blended up into this one smoothie. I’ve also been a huge fan of Foura’s music for a few years now and it was a dream to collaborate.”
Since the release of her 2022 debut mixtape Taste, FOURA has gone on to feature on a string of remixes for artists including Benson, Zia Jade and Luude & Bru-C, leading into her highly anticipated 2024 release ‘N.S.E.W.’ featuring Jalmar. Receiving support from Ministry of Sound, Beatport, Acclaim, triple j and more, the track was the sound of Melbourne Fashion Week designer Carlos Mangubat’s runway show, and also featured in Netflix’s drama series Public Disorder.
Having shared stages with the likes of Groove Armada, Zed Bias, Rudimental, Becky Hill, and Peggy Gou to name a few, FOURA continuously adds to her impressive stack of international support slots, recently performing to a sold-out Forum Theatre for Sammy Virji. and supporting Chase & Status across their Australian tour. She’s also played events for brands including Dior, KFC and WWE, and recently received a feature in Beatport’s Voices of The Community video series.
Equally as prolific on the festival front, with performances at Let Them Eat Cake, Splendour In The Grass and Falls Festival under her belt, 2024 saw FOURA return to Beyond The Valley and Listen Out, alongside her Boiler Room debut in Melbourne. Fresh from a stand-out set at Party In The Paddock earlier this month, FOURA is continuing her festival run at Touch Bass in Melbourne this April.
