Strict Face returns to the club today with “Tasteflash”, which is the first cut taken from the Tarndanya/Adelaide-based producer’s forthcoming EP, Pulsers.
On the solo front, 2019 saw the release of his Urgency EP, which centred around the trials and errors of employing new production techniques. Over the course of the release’s four tracks, it becomes clear that he’d emerged from those trials with club weapons for any occasion. Strict Face is currently hot off the back of lending his highly-realised sound to labelmate’s FOURA and Big Skeez’s debut single “On Tonight”. His Re-Strict took the late-night UK garage-influenced cut to new depths, taking things deeper into the club with his ear for intricate percussive melodies
“Tasteflash” adopts a similar mentality, with the producer stripping things right back, and taking it back to where his sound feels most at home.
Speaking on the single, Strict Face said: “The idea for “Tasteflash” came about in the latter half of 2020 when I’d been working on an influx of ideas, despite not having a platform to test them out on at the time due to COVID. Making this track (and the EP as a whole) reinforced the overall mission I’ve set out to achieve since I started producing – to make the music I’d want to hear in a club. No fancy concept about it – just let your legs stretch out and wander.”
“Tasteflash” is definitely one to stretch your legs out to. It’s a drum-heavy, vogue-inspired, club-stomper that sets the pace for this new era of Strict Face with integrity and finesse.
