Through ‘Bang’, Big Skeez continues to conquer new frontiers of sound. Looming through smooth, deep in the mix bass and sub, ‘Bang’ bridges his melodic afrobeat sound with soft and sensual RNB. Vocally, the release sees Skeez sing in a higher register than before, experimenting with autotune – here he trades the bright kineticism of ‘No Trace’, ‘Where Yuh From’ and ‘Up’, for a darker club mystique. With frequent collaborator Swick (Capo Lee, Big Zuu, Kamakaze, Merky Ace, Tkay Maidza) returning to the production fold, the two illustrate Skeez’s ability to foreshadow the path of afro-beat giants like Wizkid and Popcaan, with the enduring nostalgia of The Neptunes and Timbaland.
