Our latest mix comes from two artists that are at the heart of the NLV Records family, Strict Face and Swick. Linking up for a set that highlights their shared ear for the vibrant, eclectic club sounds that have defined the sound of the label over the past decade, the mix blends UK bass, leftfield house, rap edits, global sound and more.
Adelaide-based producer Strict Face is no stranger to NLV Records, releasing a string of EPs (This Heat, Urgency, Pulsers, Focus, Explode ) and his debut mixtape New Racer on the label, connecting the dots between the soundsystem-centric world of dance music and pop production.
His deft ear has landed him production credits for Le1f, Cadence Weapon and Cakes da Killa, and remixes for Dawn Richard and Dro Carey. Amongst countless other acts, he’s supported Pearson Sound, Zed Bias, Machinedrum, Cashmere Cat and Murlo on tour, played at Laneway Festival, FOMO and Paradise Music Festival, and recorded mixes for FACT Magazine, Truants, i-D, Rinse FM and triple plus mixes for Crack Magazine, i-D and FACT Mag.
Swick is Melbourne’s own well shaken can of bubbly fizzy drink. With an arsenal of releases on labels worldwide, he has quickly gained a reputation for tight drums, energetic synths and genre bending tracks.
In 2013 he released a collaborative EP with Diplo titled ‘Keep It Gully’ on Mad Decent, with the b-side ‘Dat A Freak’ becoming the basis for Jennifer Lopez’s single ‘Booty’ which features Iggy Azalea and Pitbull. A certified platinum record in the USA. His extensive work with Tkay Maidza was featured across five cuts on her mixtape at the tail end of 2014, as well as producing the opening track “Always Been” on her debut album.
Swick has now found his home on NLV Records releasing his EP Stamina and mixtape Court Composer. Since 2018 he has produced music for/with Big Zuu, Ms. Nina, MC Bin Laden, Kamakaze, Capo Lee, Eyez, Manga Saint Hilare, Kota Banks, Lilla Namo, Geoblu, Big Skeez, Gold Fang, King Doudou and more.
2022 saw two productions on M.I.A’s latest album MATA, ‘F.I.A.S.O.M. pt.2’ & Puththi’.
