Magugu was raised in Ajegungle, a city of Lagos, where pidgin rap originated from. Adopting the style of rap himself, pidgin rap sees a combination of two disparate languages blending together as one to create this fast-paced, high-energy sound that draws on bilingual colloquialism. He aims to connect the world to his African heritage through this style.
The MC has gained support from the likes of Giles Peterson, Toddla T, Skrillex and more.
Magugu made his NLV Records debut in 2020 with ‘Big Don’, a raucous collaboration with UK producer Famous Eno.
The pair first met in 2019 after Famous Eno remixed DJ Mellow and Magugu’s single ‘Run Dem’. Famous Eno sent Magugu the beat for ‘Big Don’, which inspired the MC to start jamming.
2021 saw the release of his dancehall-infused EP ‘Guguland.’
