Ray BLK is our #WCW this week. Just a couple months in and this 23 year old has made it very clear that 2017 is her year. An RnB singer and songwriter out of London, she is definitely one you want to keep your eye on.
You might already know that Ray BLK took out BBC’s Sound of 2017 award this year over guys like Anderson Paak and AJ Tracey. However you might not know that she is the first unsigned artist to receive the title.
With previous winners like, Sam Smith, Adele and Ellie Goulding, it’s not a stretch to say she has a big future ahead of her. Being the first independent artist to win demonstrates just how talented and hard working she is.
Without the help of a label Ray BLK’s music spread throughout the U.K and really resonated with people. FADER have even called her “the most relatable voice in U.K R&B”. Writing songs to empower women to live the life they want, she is for the girls.
As well as being a voice for women in the U.K. and around the world, she is also loud advocate and source of empowerment in the Black Lives Matter movement. Ray is the artist we all need right now.
Following her acclaimed Durt mini album last year which saw her collaborate with Stormzy and S.G Lewis, comes her latest single Patience. An effortless freestyle, this new track is the perfect example as to why she is the sound of 2017.
Ray BLK is on her way to becoming the voice of U.K R&B and we can’t wait to follow her journey. Take a listen to Patience bellow and don’t forget to smash those follow buttons.
